IIT Patna: The valedictory function- 2 of “Instructional School for Mathematical Sciences” 2030) was held today

Patna: 15 July 2023 :: The valedictory function of Phase 2 of Instructional School for Mathematical Sciences (ISMS 2030) was held at IIT Patna today.This ISMS Workshop is an important initiative of the Education Department, Government of Bihar with an aim to provide hands- on training to the students on exciting topics in the Mathematics curriculum that they study in their regular school. Also, by doing this, emphasis can also be placed on learning mathematics.

During the Phase I training program of ISMS 2023 Workshop, 550 students from classes 9 to 12 were trained from 16th June to 30th June 2023 and in Phase II, around 400 students from classes 6 to 8 were trained from 1st July Trained up to 30 July 2023. This workshop was organized in residential form. On the occasion of today’s valedictory ceremony, all the students were honored with certificates and medals.

The chief guest of the valedictory function, Professor RK Sharma IIT Delhi, while motivating the students said that the land of Bihar has been fertile in the field of Mathematics and Mathematics is very important in our daily life. This training program will undoubtedly prove to be a milestone in building the future of the students. Further addressing the students, Professor Sharma said that how a formula came into existence, students should also try to know about it.

On this occasion, IIT Patna Director Professor TN Singh also inspired the students and said that there is a huge contribution of students and teachers in nation building. Students need to learn from every little thing, then only they can do better work in any field. He motivated the students by citing the dedicated efforts behind the success of Chandrayaan 3.

Other guest of the program and patron of the workshop Professor KC Sinha, Vice Chancellor, Nalanda Open University, while addressing the students said that if you read any lesson in student life, read it at least once, write it twice and think about it thrice, it develops your reasoning power, intelectual ability and helps to understand the facts contained in them.

Dr. Vijay Kumar, Convener and Joint Secretary, Bihar Mathematical Society, Patna said that 65 resource persons from IITs and prestigious institutions of the country participated in this training. Mainly in this training programme , Prof. GK Srinivasan, IIT Bombay, Prof. RK Sharma, IIT Delhi, Prof. Vivek Kumar Malik, IIT Roorkee, Prof. MP Singh IIT, ISM Dhanbad, Prof. Sanjeev Kumar IIT Roorkee, President’s Medal Awardee, Shri Santosh Kumar Sen, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Raipur contributed a lot.

The workshop was organized under the aegis of Bihar Mathematical Society and IIT Patna in collaboration with the Department of Education, Government of Bihar. On the occasion of today’s valedictory function, Professor AK Thakur, Dean, Academics, IIT Patna, Dr. Vijay Kumar, Convener and Joint Secretary, Bihar Mathematical Society, Patna, Dr. NK Tomar, Convener (ISMS), IIT Patna, Dr. PK Srivastava, Dr. KS Patel, TPO, IIT Patna Shri Kripa Shankar Singh were present. Along with this, Prof. Aggarwal, Advisor, Education Department, Government of Bihar, other faculty and staff of IIT Patna were present.
