International

IIT Patna :: 18th Jan 2024 :: 2nd International Conference on Geotechnical Issues in Energy, Infrastructure and Disaster Management (ICGEID 2024) and campus immersion program for hybrid mode PG courses inaugurated by Chief Guest Addl. Director General, Border Road Organization (BRO), Shri R. K. Dhiman in the presence of Chief Patron Prof. T. N. Singh, Director, IIT Patna in the Central Lecture Hall at IIT Patna on 18th January 2024. This international conference is executed from 18th to 20th Jan 2024, in this mega event based on Geotechnical Issues scientists from abroad like Prof. Stephen Wilkinson, Director Research University of Wollongong, Dubai, and many from India like Prof. Bechan Lal, VC, Cluster University of Jammu, Prof. T. G. Sitharam, Chairman, AICTE presented their keynotes. Prof. T. N. Singh honoured all dignitaries with a bunch of flowers and mementoes. Welcome speech delivered by Dr. Amit Kumar Verma; the organiser of the conference, followed by a vote of thanks by Co-convener Dr Arvind Kumar Jha. This event is being organized by the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, IIT Patna; CSIR-Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research Dhanbad, Jharkhand and Geotropik, Universiti Technology, Malaysia

ICGEID-2024 endeavours to provide a platform for prominent visionaries, researchers, academics, and industry experts to discuss present and future geotechnical challenges related to the advancement of energy, infrastructure, and disaster management projects. We are confident that your participation in the inaugural function will significantly contribute to the event, offering valuable insights and encouragement.

In the keynote, chief guest Shri R. K. Dhiman emphasized the difficulties of making bridges and tunnels in hilly areas like Uttarakhand, J & K and crossing the international borders of our country.

Prof. Arvind Mishra, Director CSIR-CIMFR, gives a brief presentation on problems associated with Himalayan Territory concerning Rock excavation.

Prof. T. N. Singh focuses on geotechnical energy and says that this conference will address worldwide issues related to the construction and maintenance of geotechnical systems which require careful consideration of the parameters influencing the same. The knowledge of the geotechnical constraints is extremely significant in carrying out mining, tunnelling, and other construction activities for the benefit of the society at large to handle unprecedented risks to the environment geotechnical engineering forms the fundamental basis for a range of energy installations and transmission network expertise in geotechnical energy is vital for mitigating the impact of natural disasters on energy infrastructure.

Dr Stephen Wilkinson in his talk discussed various aspects of landslides. In conclusion, he says Geology is dangerous if not monitored carefully.

Prof. Krzysztof Sternik, Silesian University of Technology, Poland dept. of Professor Krzysztof Sternik, from the Department of Geotechnics and Rock at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Silesian University of Technology echoes these concerns in his paper.”

In his latest publication, the Author presents a Finite Element (FE) model detailing the embarkment, including assumptions related to suspension pressure calculations. His recent work delves into the identification of pavement model parameters through FE analysis of the surface area affected by discontinuous deformation in Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) tests.

IIT Patna has extended invitations to industries involved in cutting-edge technological advancements. Among them, Maccaferri is actively participating, presenting innovative solutions for infrastructure development in hilly terrains.
